Little Cottage in the Woods

I wanted to share a sneak peak of my family's cottage in NH that's been in the works for the past year and a half. My dad bought a small run down cottage in New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee back in the fall of 2010 and since then it's been demolished and rebuilt. My dad is a handy guy so he did a lot of the finishing work himself after having it framed and the roof put on. I of course have been putting my two cents in along the way and am excited to decorate the cottage with my mom for this first summer season!

The original cottage - Before Demo

My dad and the cottage during demo

The new and improved cottage. It's not painted yet!! Dont' worry we're not planning on keeping the camo look. Although, some people have told us they like it!!

View of the water to the left of the cottage. We also have a small waterfall that runs down the hill behind the cottage into the lake. The sound is really nice.

I'll skip most of the "under construction" pictures because they're boring, but here's one semi-underconstruction picture. Really most of the work was done at this point.

Looking in from the front door. There are two bedroom in the back and the stairs to go down to the walk-out basement. We need to do something really interesting with the wall above the stairs. It's somewhat of a focal point in the room. All the trim in the cottage is white but we painted the doors and railing gray for some added interest. I'll share paint colors in a later post if anyone is interested

The view looking up the stairs from the basement. I don't have pictures of the basement yet but I will share those later also.

My tiny bedroom! Don't worry a double size matress will fit for me and the hubby. I actually chose this little room because I thought it would be really fun to decorate a small space and I liked the cozy feel.

The other "bedroom". This is also considered a sleeping porch.

My dad built the table out of an old oak door and he also made the bench. I am having cushions sewn right now for the benches and we will also have pillows made. We built these benches extra deep so they would be comfortable for extra seating even when we are not eating. Someone could also sleep here if necessary.

I'll be sharing more pictures as we make progress!
